Meet Brandon Huckaby

Brandon Huckaby is a trusted banker, community organizer, and nonprofit leader running for Knox County Commission in West Knoxville’s 3rd District.

Huckaby is a proud native East Tennessean whose story is woven from resilience, hard work, and the belief that opportunity should be within reach for everyone — and it’s those values he’ll lead with as your representative on County Commission.

Five children are playing at Zoo Knoxville on a large indoor play structure that resembles a rock or mountain. The children are smiling and appear to be having fun. The background includes windows, a wooden wall, and some exhibit displays.

Born in Jacksboro, Tennessee, Huckaby grew up in a working-class Appalachian family as the oldest of five siblings. His mother, Gena, spent years as a single parent working long shifts in restaurant management while raising her children — modeling perseverance, humility, and people-first leadership, values that he carries forward into every part of his life.

Huckaby served in the Campbell County JROTC as a Public Affairs Officer. He dreamed of military service until a broken arm requiring surgical pins ended that possibility. Instead of discouragement, he found redirection — a new sense of purpose in leadership through community, education, and service.

Huckaby’s family moved to West Knoxville, where he attended Hardin Valley Academy.

Through the mentorship of his business teachers at Hardin Valley Academy and an internship with UT Federal Credit Union, Huckaby discovered how financial education could change lives — a spark that would later become his calling.

Huckaby started out as a drive-thru cashier before rising to train and lead teams of more than a hundred employees across Tennessee and Kentucky. Returning to West Knoxville with his husband, Sky, Huckaby pursued his passion for helping others by becoming a community banker.

Working as a community banker, Huckaby now primarily works in mortgage financing providing families with the tools to become homeowners. Huckaby knows homeownership should be more attainable for those who want to put down roots in our neighborhoods, strengthen our community’s fabric, and build long-term stability.

In the community, Huckaby is a visible and active leader in civic life. He serves as Vice President of the Board for Keep Knoxville Beautiful, where he champions environmental stewardship and neighborhood pride. He also chairs the Education Committee for the Farragut West Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, where he helps lead the Chamber’s educational programming, including speakers, member luncheons, and professional development initiatives that strengthen the region’s business community. As chair of the Grant Committee for the Appalachian Equality Chorus, he supports LGBTQ+ arts and advocacy across East Tennessee.

Now, Huckaby is running to strengthen our public schools, expand our parks and greenways, plan strategically for responsible development and sustainable growth, and build a more inclusive, compassionate local government. Learn more about Huckaby’s priorities here.
